Dogfish Head Red and White

Okay, it's time for my first review -

I bought this from a Spirits Unlimited on tap... yes that's right, it was a growler fill! Mmmmm. I got it on Memorial Day because I thought it was patriotic being a "Red & White".... that's two thirds of America!

First here's Dogfish Heads description of the brew:

Red & White is a big, Belgian-style witbier brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with pinot noir juice. After fermentation, a fraction of the batch is aged in one of our 10,000-gallon oak tanks.

The idea for Red & White was born at a beer and wine dinner Sam attended on the West Coast. Whenever there's peanut butter and chocolate in the same room, Sam's gonna mix 'em.

Red & White successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

It's been one of our most popular limited-edition beers at our Rehoboth Beach, Del., brewpub and at festivals around the country.

Reach for Red & White when you're grilling meat or nibbling on buttery cheese.

I did have this brew at a BBQ and I wouldn't have it any other way. 

One more point I'd like to  make before I start my review is that it has a ABV of 10% which I wish I knew before drinking half the growler with my mom the day before work... but it was worth it... what a delicious and sensational brew! 

And now for the review -

Appearance - Pours a light amber color with a very short white head which dissipates slowly. 

Smell - Very fruity fragrance. Lots of citrus and wheat yeast. 

Taste - Very much like a light wheat beer with hints of coriander and orange. The more I drank the more I got a lingering tangy taste of a nice red oaky wine.

Mouth -Very dry like wine. Full-flavored with medium body.   

Overall - This is an amazing beer. Very drinkable yet high in alcohol so beware. This beer has officially made it to my list of top beers to drink in the summer.... number one is a shandy but I'll tell you more about those later.

Hey gals! So here goes nothing.

For my first post I'd like to start off by saying a little bit about myself. I am a 24 year old female, born in Staten Island and raised in New Jersey. I was going to school in upstate New York when I fell in love with beer, specifically micro brews. Starting out as your typical 21 year old I didn't really know much about beer... and then I tried a Magic Hat and there was no turning back.

I love going on brewery tours, visiting micro breweries, tasting all sorts of suds, going to beer festivals, and dabbling in home brewing. The first brewery I toured was Magic Hat and to this day no one has beaten their super creative growler designs. They are truly a unique company and that is one of the many reasons I love them. They like to think outside the box.

In this blog I will be discussing (and critiquing) new beers I try, restaurants that serve micro brews, brew tours I go on, my adventures in home brewing and anything else beer related that I may have forgotten to mention. I hope you enjoy.
